As you know, we like to introduce you to the members of the CMS team in these newsletters. This month we talked to Brendan Doyle, the CEO and founder of CMS.

Brendan started CMS in 1991...” l was studying for an MBA at Manchester Business School and conducted an interesting project for a major UK based mutual bank. They had introduced cash in transit deliveries to their branch network and the results had not been as good as they had hoped and so I helped them develop a cash management solution which saved them a significant amount of money”. Never one to miss an opportunity, Brendan seized upon this idea of managing cash for banks and blue chip companies. By optimising the cash supply chain, he realised that he could save clients a significant amount of money whilst also building a successful business.

What’s your favourite part of working at CMS?

The thing I am most proud of is that we make such a difference to our clients. Not only do we deliver significant bottom line cost savings but we are actually managing millions of pounds each day, making sure each note, or coin, is in the right place at the right time.  I love that the team is always looking for new ways to add value to our clients.  My favourite role is drinking tea while everyone else works hard.

What does a typical day involve for you?

I would love to say that it involves me being on my yacht and giving out my orders to the team back in the office... but, in reality, I work closely with the team to make sure that we are delivering value. My main aim is to build the business (I have to get the yacht somehow!) so most days, I am out meeting both new and existing clients. The only typical part of my day is Andrea shouting at me.

Who was your childhood hero?

Olivia Newton John. I went to see Grease 17 times when it was first released and I still watch it nearly every day now.

Which person, dead or alive, would you most like to meet and what would you ask them?

Olivia Newton John. I would ask her to come and live with me on my yacht so we could sail around the world together. While she makes the tea, I can shout out my orders to the team in the office.

Tell us something you don’t think anyone will know about you?

I wrote a musical based on a combination of Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood...I am still waiting for a call from Hollywood.

Do you have any ambitions for the future?

To build CMS into the worldwide leader in cash management solutions of course.... and to get that yacht.

If you didn’t work for CMS, what would you be doing?

I would be on the yacht singing “Summer Nights” with Olivia Newton John....
